CS2: the spectacular bug on Vertigo that will leave you floating

Players keep finding amazing (if a little bit worrying) bugs in Counter-Strike 2, with this latest one sending people soaring through the air.

Update:
CS2: the spectacular bug on Vertigo that will leave you floating

Talk about rough launch periods. The developers at Valve have been working non-stop to bring Counter-Strike 2 up to the quality standard that the company is known for, having launched in an unstable state after a surprise announcement just a few weeks ago. But bugs seem to keep popping up, like this one that allows players to “fly” into the air and outflank their enemies.

Dubbed “air peeking,” this new bug was discovered by players only hours after the latest patch of the game was released on October 17, 2023. While this latest patch mostly focused on disabling command aliases that all kinds of users were exploiting, some of the other fixes claimed to have removed cases where players were able to peek through certain ceilings. However, it’s now possible to jump over the edges of the map, land in the middle of the air, and catch the opposing team unaware from impossible angles in a couple of maps.

As you can see in the video above, it takes a bit of teamwork to set up, but it’s as simple as jumping off the edge of the playable map to land on the invisible ground, giving players the positional advantage quickly and consistently. As this was found on Vertigo and Overpass, the bug makes it look as if the players are floating in mid-air. Obviously, this shouldn’t happen: players who fall off the construction site on Vertigo are supposed to die instantly, but now they’re able to stay alive and snipe at the other team.

Counter-Strike 2 is Valve’s lowest rated game ever

It’s been a rough few weeks for Counter-Strike and Valve. With the original titles gone and this sequel still fram from where its supposed to be, review-bombing has been the name of the game. With a score of 30 on Metacritic and “mixed” reviews on Steam, where it has garnered over a million negative comments, more than any other production from the developer. Even professional players like Oleksandr ‘s1mple’ Kostyliev have recommended their community wait a few months to get into the game because of all the problems that are being experienced at launch.

In Valve’s favor, it should be noted that launch problems are nothing new, not only today in the video game industry, but in the series, whose updates and deliveries also had startup problems. Not so many, it’s true, but neither had there been so many new developments and innovations. We will see if the company is capable of listening to and solving all the community’s demands in the coming months, thus recovering their impeccable resume (Half-Life, Portal, Left 4 Dead, DOTA 2, Team Fortress).
