Diablo 4 fans threaten to abandon the game if Blizzard doesn’t change how Battle Passes will work

Some Diablo 4 players just found out they’ll need new characters for Season 1, and they’re not happy with Blizzard.

Diablo 4 players have discovered that to play the upcoming Season 1 content they’ll have to create entirely new characters, and have started voicing their displeasure at the idea and sharing their intent to leave the game behind should Blizzard Entertainment not change this.

For fans of the Diablo Franchise that have been playing since the previous iteration of the game, this isn’t that surprising: every season asks players to start from equal grounds to complete the seasonal content, eventually resetting their progress and jumping into the next season. Diablo 4 was always going to work this way, even announcing months ago the requirements to play these upcoming content being to finish the main campaign once and to create new characters. However, this new release has become the first experience for a large amount of players new to the series, and the implementation of Battle Passes is not going well with them.

Some of the most vocal fans have warned Blizzard that there isn’t a chance that this format would be accepted by a large majority of the player base. They’ve taken to Twitter to share this sentiment, urging the developers to plan ahead for the incoming drop in active users so that the game will survive on the long run

Even after Rod Fergusson, main producer of the series at Blizzard, made an appearance to explain how the system is going to work, other players admitted that they aren’t too attracted to the idea of starting a new character from scratch for every season, and repeating that grind every three months.

Others still have shared their worries that this system would invalidate all of the progress they’ve worked towards since launch, even feeling like they’re “losing” their characters once they’re transferred to the permanent “Eternal” server at the start of the following season. They’ve even offered the idea of making Battle Pass progression account-wide instead of bound to seasonal characters.

Be as it may, we’ll have to wait and see how the Battle Pass and Season system work once Blizzard unleashes Season 1 in July. Diablo 4 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
