Update:

As the MLB trade deadline approaches on Thursday there has been talk that Minnesota Twins star Carlos Correa could be tempted away.

Correa signed with the Twins in 2022, going on to sign a six-year, $200 million contract that includes a no-trade clause. However he has been linked with a return to the Houston Astros, the team that he helped to a World Series in 2017.

His no-trade clause means that Correa will have to sign off an any proposed move, but speaking to reporters on Wednesday he didn’t exactly dispel talk of a trade.

I’ve got full control,” Correa said. “We’ll see how it goes. You listen to the rumors and all that, it feels like it happens every year. But you’ve just got to let it play out.”

“That’s not something I … think is serious right now,” the Puerto Rican added. “We’ll see where everything goes. But my goal has always been to be here and win here. I’ve been talking to [Twins president of baseball] Derek [Falvey] and [manager] Rocco [Baldelli] and I’ll be ready for the next series.”

Correa hasn’t quite been able to replicate the form that he showed in Houston, where he won AL Rookie of the Year in 2015 and the 2021 Gold Glove Award. A former teammate of his from the Astros is certainly hoping that he will be reunited.

“Correa’s a guy with a lot of history here in Houston,” Astros second baseman Jose Altuve said about the trade rumors. “He’s a great player, great human being, great teammate. So I think -- if anything [were] to happen, I hope it’s the best for him and for us.”

The deadline for a trade is 6pm ET on Thursday, July 31.
