Bob Uecker dies at 90: What was the cause of death?
The MLB legend sadly passed away on Thursday. Here’s what we know.
MLB legend Bob Uecker has sadly passed away at the age of 90. The former catcher went on to serve as the primary broadcaster for the Milwaukee Brewers for a total of 54 seasons, where he wrote his name and etched his voice into the minds of fans the world over.
Known as “Mr Baseball” despite his short career on the mound, Uecker was a fan favourite behind the microphone.
Uecker signed his first professional contract with the Milwaukee Braves in 1956 and worked his way up to making his majors debut in 1962. He played in the big leagues as a backup catcher for six years, and finished with a .200 average and 14 homers.
As for his trophy haul, he won a sole World Series ring with St. Louis in 1964.
The famous voice of baseball also ended up with a prominent role in the movies “Major League” (1989) and “Major League II” (1994) where he played announcer Harry Doyle.
How did Bob Uecker die?
Uecker’s family said he had battled small cell lung cancer since early 2023: “Even in the face of this challenge, his enthusiasm for life was always present, never allowing his spirit to falter,” the family statement said.
#RIPtoTheGOAT was quickly trending on social media, and given his amazing career as a broadcaster, player and all-round good guy, it’s no wonder the world of baseball is in mourning at the passing of such a legend.
