Goodbye Cleveland: Shane Bieber traded to the Blue Jays | This is what the Guardians get in return
In a risky move for both teams All-Star starting pitcher Shane Bieber is leaving the Guardians after seven years in Cleveland. The Blue Jays are taking a chance on the recovering RHP.
On paper the trade looks very lopsided: The Blue Jays get a former Cy Young Award winner and one of the league’s top pitchers over the last six seasons. The Guardians get a minor-league RHP in the deal. Khal Stephen, ranked the fifth best prospect in the Blue Jays’ system, has reached Double-A and has a 2.06 ERA and 99 Ks this season.

What’s the catch? Why would the Guardians get rid of one of their top pitchers for a 22-year-old in Double-A? Cleveland must have some doubts about Bieber’s injury recovery. The former Cy Young winner hasn’t pitched for the Guardians this year and is currently trying to recover in the minor leagues. He pitched in a Double-A start two days ago, throwing 59 pitches in four innings.
