Dodgers star to throw at Citi Field as return nears

Estados Unidos Update:

Shohei Ohtani is inching closer to a full return as a pitcher. It’s been confirmed that this Saturday, for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery, he’s set to face live batters as part of his ongoing recovery.

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ two-way star will throw during batting practice at Citi Field, ahead of the team’s matchup against the New York Mets, manager Dave Roberts revealed.

Ohtani has been steadily progressing since his surgery on September 19, 2023, and hasn’t pitched in an official game since last August. While there’s still no set date for his return to the mound, fans remain hopeful to see him back in full two-way form sometime soon – some reports suggest it could happen as early as July.

Roberts did not specify how long Ohtani will continue throwing in practice settings. The Japanese sensation recently held a more structured throwing session, having already been spotted working on fastballs and splitters – though without significant intensity. Just last Saturday, he completed a 50-pitch bullpen session.
