Update:

The Mets made it happen. They got their man. With Pete Alonso hitting behind Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor leading off, opposing pitchers can’t pitch around those three. After the top three hitters, the Mets can go with Brandon Nimmo, Mark Vientos, Starling Marte…

Pete Alonso’s contract details

The Mets slugger re-signed for two years and $54 million. Alonso will make $30 million in 2025 (with an opt-out after the first year). He will be (re-)joining some big names and big salaries in New York:

Juan Soto will be making $51 million in 2025, Francisco Lindor $31.9 million and Alonso will be in third place behind him and probably 3rd in the lineup as well. Pitcher Sean Manaea will earn $22 million this coming season and Brandon Nimmo’s 2025 salary will be $20.2 million.

Baseball isn’t just hitting though and the Mets will need arms too if the objective is to play in October. Manaea is their main man on the mound and in the off season they have added Frankie Montas and Clay Homes to their rotation. Kodai Senga will look to strengthen the group of pitchers if he can stay healthy in 2025 and Griffin Canning will try to make an impression on the coaching staff during Spring Training. Paul Blackbur and Tylor Megill will be fighting for a spot on the opening day roster as wel. There is still time for the Mets front office to make some moves to shore up their starting rotation and bullpen. We’ll keep you posted here.
