The Venezuelan second baseman had a fantastic season, batting .311 with 112 hits and hitting 17 home runs.
He still has one season remaining on his 7-year, $163.5 million contract he signed in 2018, which means he won’t enter free agency until 2025. However, due to his exceptional performance in the postseason, there is already talk of a possible contract renewal.
Scott Boras, a prominent player agent in Major League Baseball, has shed some light on the situation for the player born in Maracay, Venezuela.
“The Astros have expressed a desire to extend Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman, but there have been no discussions yet.” Chandler Rome, a well-informed insider, made note of this.
Altuve wants to end his career with the team where he won two World Series and will be inducted into the Cooperstown Hall of Fame.
