The 2024 Premier12 baseball tournament is just around the corner, bringing together elite talent from the world’s top 12 national teams for an international showdown. Here are some standout players to watch who could shake things up on the diamond this year.

Chandler Simpson - USA

A speedster and No. 4 prospect in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, Simpson stands out not just for his quickness but for his solid batting skills. Transitioning from second base to the outfield has only amplified his impact. Last season, he showcased an eye-catching .355 batting average with 104 stolen bases. Watch for him to make plays with his legs, setting the tone for Team USA’s aggressive approach.

Hiroto Takahashi - Japan

Japan’s Hiroto Takahashi is another key figure to follow. The 22-year-old pitcher has already left his mark on the world stage, helping Samurai Japan win the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Takahashi combines an upper-90s fastball with a deceptive split-finger pitch, and after a stellar season with a 1.38 ERA in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), he could catch the attention of MLB scouts yet again.

Travis Bazzana - Australia

A recent first-overall pick by the Cleveland Guardians, Bazzana aims to make waves at the Premier12. Known for his all-around talent, the former Oregon State standout is making his senior debut. Australia, which impressed many during the 2023 World Baseball Classic, is hoping Bazzana’s dynamic bat and athleticism can help them surprise again.

Yu-Min Lin - Taiwan

Yu-Min Lin from Chinese Taipei is a pitcher with finesse. The Arizona Diamondbacks prospect may not light up the radar gun but relies on a tricky low-80s changeup and crafty breaking pitches to keep hitters guessing. After overcoming a freak injury this past season, Lin’s Premier12 appearance could showcase his readiness for the big leagues.

Dylan Farley - Netherlands

Representing the Netherlands, left-hander Dylan Farley comes with a family legacy of baseball excellence. While he didn’t see action during the 2023 World Baseball Classic, his solid performances at the U-23 World Cup prove he’s one to watch on the mound this time around.

Edgardo Villegas - Puerto Rico

On Puerto Rico’s roster, Edgardo Villegas enters the spotlight fresh off an MVP-worthy performance at the U-23 World Cup. His plate discipline and high on-base percentage make him a potential force in their lineup, and he’s poised to bring that same consistency to the Premier12.

Yoán Moncada - Cuba

Free agent Yoán Moncada suits up for Cuba, eager to prove he’s still got plenty to offer after an injury-shortened 2023 MLB season. His experience and pedigree could be critical to Cuba’s success, providing a veteran presence with something to prove.

Do-yeong Kim - South Korea

Finally, Do-yeong Kim of the Kia Tigers will represent Korea. Just 20 years old, Kim’s 30-home-run and 30-stolen-base milestone made him the youngest in KBO history to achieve the feat. His combination of power, speed, and youth could make him one of the tournament’s breakout stars.

The 2024 Premier12 promises plenty of drama and fireworks, with these big-time players leading the charge for their respective teams. Whether it’s electrifying speed, dazzling pitching, or clutch hitting, these athletes are ready to leave their mark on one of baseball’s premier global stages.
