Chasing their first ever title in the WBSC Premier12, the United States begin the Super Round with a clash against defending champions Japan, the top-ranked team in the international baseball competition.

Which teams have qualified for the Super Round?

Together with the USA and Japan, Chinese Taipei and Venezuela have also reached the four-way Super Round, in which the quartet of teams will all play each other once over the next three days. The top two finishers in this round-robin phase will contest Sunday’s championship final; the third and fourth-placed teams will go head to head for the bronze medal in the hours before the gold-medal game.

Japan is hosting the Super Round and Finals in Tokyo, after the 12-team pool stage was held in Mexico and Taiwan.

That 4-3 win was not enough to help the Americans qualify for the 2019 championship final, however; after coming fourth in the Super Round, the USA had to settle for a place in the bronze-medal game, which they lost to Mexico.

Japan, meanwhile, made it to this year’s Super Round by winning Group B with a perfect record. Their 2019 defeat to the USA was the last time they lost a Premier12 game; since then, the Japanese have put together eight victories on the spin in the tournament.
