Update:

This year’s fascinating World Series showdown between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays is proving to be a global phenomenon that has captured the imaginations of many. Game 1 of the 2025 World Series drew an impressive 32.6 million viewers across three major markets: the United States, Canada and Japan.

On average, the first two games combined brought in about 30.5 million viewers across those same countries.

In the U.S., the first two games collectively attracted 12.5 million viewers on various platform. That figure represents the second-highest average for the opening pair of games this decade. Game 1 alone brought in 13.3 million viewers; Game 2 averaged 11.6 million.

As for Canada, Game 1 registered 7 million viewers, while Game 2 racked up 6.6 million. That makes these the most-watched Blue Jays games ever on Sportsnet. Combined, the two games reached 15.9 million Canadian viewers via the platform. Across all domestic Canadian rights‐holders (Sportsnet + TVA Sports), the two-game average was about 7.2 million viewers: 7.5 million for Game 1 and 6.9 million for Game 2.

Even with a 9 a.m. local start time, Japanese viewers turned up and tuned in. Game 1 aired on NHK-G and averaged 11.8 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game ever in Japan on a single network and the third-most-watched overall. Game 2 on NHK-BS averaged 9.5 million. Doing the maths, the two‐game average in Japan thus sat at 10.7 million.

However, despite the largest portion of interest coming from these three nations, the numbers for the overall viewership went far beyond the three countries. According to the MLB, the 2025 World Series aired in 203 countries and territories via 44 media partners and in 16 different languages.

The official report claims that part of the broader appeal comes down to the rosters; between the Dodgers and Blue Jays, 13 players were born outside the U.S., hailing from eight different countries and territories.
