Atlanta Hawks 130 vs 122 Dallas Mavericks summaruy: stats and highlights | NBA

Update:
The Atlanta Hawks rattled off their fourth straight victory with a win over the Dallas Mavericks. Dejounte Murray led the Hawks in the 130-122 win.

The Atlanta Hawks won their fourth straight game and continue to climb the Eastern Conference standings after their road win over the Dallas Mavericks. Dejounte Murray led the Atlanta Hawks with 30 points in the 130-122 win at the American Airlines Center.

Murry steps to the mic

It was supposed to be the battle of the two stars from the 2018 NBA Draft as Luka Doncic and Trae Young squared off, but Murray stole the show. Doncic sat out the Mavs last game in Portland with a bummed ankle, but there was no doubt he would be on the floor to face his draft classmate.

The Hawks jumped off to a hot start lighting up the score board thanks to Murray’s sharp shooting and Young’s vision off the pick and roll and in transition. He had five first quarter assists as Atlanta scored 40 in the first 12 minutes.

Luka Doncic had 19 points in the first quarter, but the Mavs turned the ball over seven times as their choppy start saw them fall behind in the open minutes of the game.

Young bounces back from ankle scare

Atlanta had a scare at the end of the first quarter when Young twisted his ankle on a cameraman’s foot under the basket. He had to go to the locker room, but returned after a short absence in the second quarter.

The scoring slowed down once Young was briefly sidelined and Doncic headed to the bench, and the Hawks led the entire first half.

Dallas came out and took the lead early in the third quarter on their way to a 14-0 run that looked like it was going to turn the tides. Doncic and the Mavs built up an eight point lead, but just when it seemed like the home side was taking control Murray stopped the run by rattling off five straight points and from then on the game was on a knifes edge until the end.

In the end, Luka’s 30 points weren’t enough as eight different Hawks scored double digits including Young who had 18 and 12 assists and John Collins had another 19.

Two teams going in opposite directions

Young finished off the Mavs with his signature floater to stretch the lead to six points with under a minute to go and give the Hawks their fourth straight win and sixth in their last eight games while the Mavs drop their third straight and seventh in their last nine.

2018 Draft class

Luka Doncic and Trae Young will always be tied together after being drafted in the same draft class. The Hawks took the Slovenian and traded him to the Mavs who took Young with the 5th pick. Since getting drafted, both have made the All-Star Game, both have made an All-NBA Team and both have led their teams to the Conference Finals. They are without question the most successful players of the 2018 draft class that included Deandre Ayton, Marvin Bagley III and Jaren Jackson Jr. in the top 5.

as.com

Trae Young and Dejounte Murray look to keep the train rolling in Big D, but they will have to take down Luka and the Mavs to keep climbing the Eastern Conference ladder.

as.com

As you can see, Doncic is featured in the starting line up, and there was little doubt that he would play for this big time match up against Trae Young.

as.com

Tonight's odds

Accoridng to Bet365.com, the Mavs are 2.5 point favorites over the Hawks and the Over/Under is set at 231.5.

After a rough patch on the road, I think the Mavs come in looking for blood tonight, so I'm taking the Mavs to cover.

Doncic Drama

Dallas courts have recently settled an ugly off court feud between him and his mother over ownership of his image rights. According to reports, the core of the feud lies in the trademark of her son’s name, “Luka Doncic 7,” which she herself owns. After Doncic filed a petition to cancel the trademark and subsequently failed, he then applied to file another trademark under his name with the title “Luka Doncic 77.” Unfortunately, it was also denied.

ATL is streaking

The Atlanta Hawks have been rolling since the turn of the new year and they kept of their fantastic form with an eight point victory over the Heat on Monday. Dejounte Murray came alive in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 of his 28 points to lead the Hawks over Miami. Jimmy Butler dropped 34 points against Atlanta, but his side never lead in the game that they trailed by as many as 26. Trae Young added 24 points and 8 assists as the Hawks evened their record to 22-22.

Dallas back home after road trip

The Mavs played the Trail Blazers for a second straight game on Sunday and they flat out looked warn out. On the fifth and final of their road games they gave up 140 points in Portland after losing 136-119 the night before. Mavs stud Luka Doncic was given the night off against the Blazers, and Spencer Dinwiddie’s 28 points weren’t enough to take down the boys from Rip City. The game was tight until the fourth quarter although Portland was in control for 48 minutes. Damian Lillard had 40 points and led a fourth quarter charge that buried the Mavs to serve them their four loss in five games.

We are live from Dallas

Hello everyone and welcome to American Airlines Center where the Mavs finally return home after a five game road trip, that didn’t go as planned for Jason Kidd’s team. Dallas lost four of their five away games, but they return to Dallas looking to keep track with the top half of the Western Conference. The Hawks had another disappointing start to the season but is there a turn in the tides in Atlanta? They have won three straight and five of their last seven and now look to keep the good spell going in Big D.
