Brooklyn Nets have their eyes on Giannis Antetokounmpo
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Brooklyn Nets are currently preparing to make a move for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Rooted to the bottom of the league, the Nets could definitely use the help as they look to turn themselves into a contender.
As for how such a move would work, there have in fact been rumors for quite some time regarding the Nets and their intention to acquire the Bucks’ biggest star with Stein noting that the franchise is set to be in the running for the 30-year-old who himself is rumored to be on the lookout for a new team.
“The scenario repeatedly cited in conversation with rival teams always winds up in the same place: The Nets have long been described and continue to be painted as a team determined to be in position to trade for Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo someday,” Stein wrote on his Substack.
Of course, this is all speculation at this point, however, if there is one thing that’s certain, it’s that the Nets have a whole lot to work with in the form of multiple draft picks for the future, which naturally could be used in any potential deal for Giannis. At present, Antetokounmpo is under contract through the 2026-27 season and is due to earn $54.1 million next season and $58.4 million the year after. There is also a player option in 2027-28 worth $62.8 million, at which point he’d be 33. Nonetheless, Stein maintains that the Nets have their hearts set on bringing Antetokounmpo to the Big Apple. With an average of 31.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game, it’s not hard to understand why.
