The Suns guard made light of his on-court celebration, but the league confirmed his prediction with a hefty postgame penalty.

Update:

The Phoenix Suns posted a fifth straight victory against the Indiana Pacers on Thursday, but the win came at a not-inconsiderable price for Dillon Brooks, just as the small forward himself predicted after the game.

A sly celebration caught on camera

Late in the second quarter at Mortgage Matchup Center, Brooks was caught on camera making a celebratory “crotch chop” gesture as he lay on the floor after sinking a difficult two-point shot while off balance. Fans of WWF/WWE might see it as a mild, perhaps unintended nod to D-Generation X.

Brooks knew a fine was coming

Speaking to reporters after the game, the Canadian was asked about “leaving a little bit extra there when you fell” and sparked a round of chuckles with his answer. “I’m going to say that’s probably 25k.”

He turned out to be spot on. On Friday, James Jones, the NBA’s executive vice president and head of basketball operations, announced that Brooks had been fined $25,000 for “making a lewd gesture” during the matchup against Indiana.

Brooks’ strong form softens the blow

The fine is unlikely to have much of an effect on Brooks, who has been in superb form since joining the Suns in the summer. The 29-year-old is averaging career highs in points per game (20.3), steals (1.9), two-point field goal percentage (54.5 percent) and free-throw percentage (93.3 percent). He also played a key role in beating the Pacers, scoring 32 points in 28 minutes.
