Update:

The Golden State Warriors have had a relatively low-key off-season to date, with the departure of longtime center Kevon Looney to the New Orleans Pelicans their main roster news. However, that could change in the coming hours with the seemingly imminent arrival of five-time NBA All-Star Al Horford.

Six teams interested in Al Horford

It was claimed earlier this week by insider Michael Scotto that the Warriors were one of six teams interested in securing Horford’s services for the 2025/26 season, along with the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics, who he has just spent four years with.

The latest report, this time from NBA correspondent Marc Stein, suggests Horford is expected to end up with the Warriors, and that the deal could be announced as early as Sunday (July 6).

The Celtics had wanted to re-sign the 39-year-old but are being forced to offload a number of stars, including Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, to get under the NBA’s apron.

Horford’s championship-winning experience

Horford was selected for the All-Star Game five times between 2010 and 2018 while playing for the Atlanta Hawks and Boston (first spell). Despite his advancing years, the Dominican was a key part of the Celtics’ rotation as they won the NBA championship in 2024.

The veteran big man remains a dependable presence on both ends of the floor. In his most recent season with the Celtics, Horford averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting an efficient 36.3% from beyond the arc.
