How does Jalen Brunson’s NBA playoffs points record streak hold on the all-time list?
We haven’t seen a performance like Jalen Brunson’s in this year’s basketball playoffs since Michael Jordan and his 1993 skit.
In the first game of the Eastern semifinals against the Indiana Pacers, the New York Knicks were trailing. However, with the help of their star player, Jalen Brunson, who scored 43 points, including 21 in the last quarter, they managed to turn the game around and win.
This was the fourth consecutive game in which the player had scored 40 or more points, showcasing his talent as a left-handed basketball master. The audience at Madison Square Garden enjoyed yet another unforgettable night of basketball.
During the game’s final moments, Myles Turner committed an inexplicable foul with only 12.1 seconds left on the clock. This allowed Haliburton to put his team in the lead, but he inexplicably failed.
However, Brunson stepped up and scored clutch points, both in the game and from the free-throw line, securing the win for New York with a score of 121-117. This gave New York a 1-0 lead in the series.
All-time greats joined by Jalen
Brunson made history by becoming the fourth basketball player ever to score 40+ points in four consecutive games during the playoffs. This feat put him in an elite group of players.
The first player to achieve this was Jerry West, who scored 40+ points in six consecutive games during the 1965 postseason. Bernard King followed with four consecutive 40+ point games for the Knicks in 1984, and Michael Jordan had four straight 40+ point games during the 1993 Finals against the Phoenix Suns.
While Brunson acknowledged the importance of scoring 40 points, he also believes that the little things determine the winner of a game. He considers himself fortunate to have a great group of teammates who helped him win games, which was the praise that could be heard from him in his post-game statements. Brunson also previously led his team to victory against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the playoffs.
The New York Knicks game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal will be played on Thursday, May 9.
