Is Victor Wembanyama the tallest player in the NBA? Official height after San Antonio’s measurement
The San Antonio Spurs newest star, Victor Wembanyama’s height was revealed on Wednesday, but where does that put him with the tallest players in the NBA?
If you haven’t heard already, as impossible as that seems, Victor Wembanyama is the new craze in the NBA after being drafted with the first overall pick in the 2023 Draft. He still has a ways to go before reaching surpestardom, but one thing he won’t have to wait for is joining the list of tallest active players in the NBA.
Wemby’s official measurements
His height is unreal, even by NBA standards. It might be his wingspan, it might be his slender frame, but when you see him up close he looks like he should be bumping heads with the basket. When you combine that with out of this world skill set, you have to think Wemby is headed for nothing short of a legendary career.
Going into the draft there was some debate about exactly how tall the 19 year old Frenchman is. Some outlets had him listed at 7′5″ others just over 7′2″. There was some confusion surrounding the subject, but there was no confusion on who the top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft was going to be.
Now that the Spurs have brought him to San Antonio and given him a king’s welcome, we know exactly how tall this year’s first overall draft pick is. He was listed on PRO A team Metropolitans 92′s website at 2.21 meter, which is 7′2½ “. He even stated that back in October, but as many 18 or 19 years olds do, it seems like Wemby has shot up another inch or so.
Boban league’s tallest by less than an inch
In an official measuring conducted by his new team, he is now 7′3½” inches, or 2.23 m, which makes him one of, if not the tallest player in the league. There have been taller players in the history of the league, like Gheorghe Muresan (7′7″), Manute Bol (7′7″) and Tacko Fall (7′6″) but right now it looks like he is currently one of the tallest players and certainly has the highest expectations of anyone in the 2023 draft class.
