Mark Cuban’s shock reaction after seeing Mavs snatch No. 1 draft pick
The Dallas Mavericks owner has revealed what the news means for the franchise after a tough few months.

Watching the NBA Draft Lottery on Monday evening, Mark Cuban’s reaction was probably pretty similar to fans of the Dallas Mavericks around the world.
Writing on social media, the Dallas minority owner simply wrote: “Oh my fucking God !!!”
Going into the night the Mavericks had just a 1.8% chance of grabbing the first overall pick for this year’s draft. Dallas had missed out on the playoffs but they were unlikely to receive a high-value pick. Speaking on Tuesday, Cuban revealed to Front Office Sports his first thought after seeing the draw.
“It was just a relief,” Cuban explained. “That it was such a crazy difficult season, one moment gave us a new energy going forward.”
It was the first time that the Dallas Mavericks have ever won the draft lottery and it could hardly have come at a better time for the struggling franchise. Recent months have been chaotic, with off-court controversies combining with on-court under-performance.
The shock trade of Luka Doncic was followed by a spate of serious injuries and a failure to qualify for the NBA Playoffs. They are now ready for a refresh and they now stand to pick up one of the most talented draft prospects of recent years.
Cooper Flagg is widely-assumed to be the No. 1 overall draft pick, an 18-year-old forward who starred during his one season in the NCAA with Duke. The Mavs have already indicated that they are not planning to trade the No. 1 pick and Flagg looks set to join Dallas for the 2025/26 NBA season.
