Mason Plumlee admits “I just made a point to hit him” after scuffle with Steven Adams

Update:

A fight broke out and blood was drawn in Houston last night during the Phoenix Suns game against the Rockets. Two of the biggest guys on the floor got into it before eventually getting separated and then ejected.

Houston, we have a problem

It’s was a battle of the big boys from the Space City as Steven Adams and Mason Plumlee got into a dust up in the final minutes of the first half. It all started on a made shot attempt from the Rockets Jalen Green. Despite the make, each of the two centers on the floor ended up getting in the face of one and other before eventually winding up on the hardwood, locked in each others arms.

The 6’10’ Plumlee seemed to throw the first shot as the field goal attempt went up and the 6’11” Adams responded by getting in the face of Plumlee. Once both players were untangled it was the Suns big man that was bloodied despite admitting to initiating the scuffle.

“He goes for every rebound, and he does it whether it’s dirty or not,” Plumlee said after the game. “I just felt like they were being more physical than us, so I just made a point to hit him on the glass.”

Adams: the gentile giant

Adams is known for being a gentile giant, but his strength is unmatched. If you need any proof there is a 15 minute video on YouTube of NBA players taking about how strong Adams is.

It seemed like Adams didn’t want to retaliate too much to Plumlee’s provocation. Instead of throwing punches or wrestling the former Dukie to the ground, he decided to bear hug him and ended up going to ground. Despite Plumlee landing on top of Adams, it was the Suns center who had blood streaming down his eye.

Both players were thrown out of the game by head ref Tony Brothers, but Rockets coach Ime Udoka knows Adams could have roughed Plumlee up a bit more. “There wasn’t much,” Rockets coach Ime Udoka said. “Steven could do a lot more if he was really trying to wrestle. It looked like they got in a little bear hug and fell down. I thought that would maybe be a technical at best. Surprised they were ejected.”
