Update:

The Cleveland Cavaliers are up 3-0 in their series against the Miami Heat after a blowout win on Saturday. They need just one more to advance to round two of the NBA playoffs.

Heat make embarrassing playoff history in loss to Cavs

Despite All-Star Darius Garland’s absence and an off night in shooting for Donovan Mitchell, the Cavaliers won in blowout fashion, 124-87 over the Heat. That 37-point defeat handed Miami their worst playoff loss in franchise history. Before this, the Heat’s worst playoff loss was a 36-point defeat in Game 3 of the 2013 NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. That team won the title.

This team, however, is on the verge of playoff elimination in the first round. On Saturday, the Cavaliers went on an early 33-5 run, had a 46-29 edge over Miami in rebounding, and outscored them in the paint 60-30.

“Our guys knew that was the key, rebounding and winning the rebounding battle,” Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson said. “We really executed defensively.”

Miami’s Bam Adebayo, who scored 22 points for the Heat, called the loss “embarrassing”. Coach Erik Spoelstra called it a “disappointing day”. They haven’t given up, but they’ve got a big challenge ahead, as no NBA team has ever come back after being down 3-0 in a series.

“We’re going to play to the final buzzer, and whether that’s the next game, Game 5, 6, 7, another series after this, you just got to keep playing,” said Miami guard Tyler Herro. “That’s what we’re paid to do. And that’s who we are as an organization. We want to compete. We’re not going out 4-0.

The Cavaliers have other plans. They’ll look to end things for Miami once and for all on Monday as they take on the Heat at the Kaseya Center.
