Trump, Spike Lee… and who else? The star power expected at the NBA Finals
With the New York Knicks back on the biggest stage, a familiar, and potentially political, courtside cast is expected to follow.

The New York Knicks are in the NBA Finals for the first time since the ‘90s, and the fans are losing their minds. They’re set to face the winner of the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs series. But the Knicks alone are expected to bring in a long list of A-list celebrities to Madison Square Garden.
Trump headlines a potentially star-studded Finals crowd
The biggest confirmed name tied to the NBA Finals right now is U.S. president Donald Trump, who is expected to attend a game during the series to support the New York Knicks.

His presence alone would make headlines, especially considering he’d be the first sitting president to attend an NBA Finals game. But if history is any guide, he won’t be the only notable figure sitting courtside.
The usual Knicks royalty: Spike Lee and beyond
When the Finals run goes through Madison Square Garden, one name is almost guaranteed: Spike Lee.
Lee has been the face of Knicks fandom for decades, a constant presence courtside through both the franchise’s highs and long stretches of frustration. A Finals appearance would almost certainly bring him front and center again.

Other frequent Garden regulars who could realistically appear include:
- Ben Stiller
- Chris Rock
- Tracy Morgan
None are confirmed, but all have a long track record of showing up when the stakes rise.

The Jay-Z factor and New York’s cultural pull
There’s also the general New York celebrity ecosystem to consider. Jay-Z, while no longer a regular courtside fixture, has deep ties to the city’s basketball culture. A Knicks Finals run could easily draw him, and other major artists, back into the spotlight.
Likewise, stars connected to New York across fashion, music, and film often treat deep playoff runs as must-attend events. The Finals, especially, tend to become as much a cultural happening as a sporting one.

Even beyond Knicks loyalists, the NBA Finals traditionally attract a celebrity crowd, regardless of market. In recent years, Finals games have drawn:
- Major Hollywood actors
- Global music stars
- Former NBA legends
- High-profile athletes from other sports
So even if names aren’t confirmed yet, it would be more surprising not to see a rotating cast of A-listers appear as the series unfolds.
