With the Sixers having swept the Nets and now one up on last year’s Conference champions, it’s as good a time as any to take a look at the contract details of one of the central reasons why the team is where it is in this moment, Tyrese Maxey.

The details of Tyrese Maxey’s present contract

In 2020, Tyrese Maxey signed a 4-year, $12,152,560 contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. It’s worth mentioning that the entire amount of the contract - $12,152,560 - was guaranteed carried with it an annual average salary of $3,038,140.

With that in mind, Maxey will earn a base salary of $4,343,920 in the 2023-24 season, while carrying a cap hit of $4,343,920 and a dead cap value of $4,343,920. If you’re wondering about his worth, keep in mind that we’re talking about a guard who went from an average of 8.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in his rookie season to 20.3 ppg, 2.9 rpg and 3.5 apg this season, while literally molding himself into one of the most lethal shooters in the league from beyond the arc.

Contract extension this summer for Tyrese Maxey

If you didn’t know, Tyrese Maxey’s contract is basically up. In light of that, the 22-year-old guard is in line to pocket $2.7 million for his efforts this year and a further $4.3 million next year. On the other hand, Maxey is set to become a restricted agent in the summer of 2024 which of course makes things interesting. Keep in mind that Maxey has literally been playing the best basketball of his three-year career so far. With an average of 20.3 points on 48.1% shooting - a career high - it’s safe to say he’s impressed. So, what’s the deal with his deal?

To be clear, Maxey is still signed to a rookie-scale contract that was signed back in 2020. Said contract had a duration of four years and a total worth of $12.1 million. In addition, the deal also carried a team option for the final two seasons. The team has since exercised those options, meaning Maxey will be with them until the contract expires. That in turn means that he will soon be up for a maximum rookie-scale extension. This will likely result in an extension of five years and a value of roughly $200 million i.e., a first-year salary of $33.6 million.
