What is the mascot of the Philadelphia 76ers?
After breaking the four-year mascot-less period, the Philadelphia Sixers acquired Franklin the dog in 2015.
The Philadelphia 76ers are one of eight out of 23 teams to make it through the first decade of the NBA.
Unsurprisingly, a franchise with such a long and profound history has had its share of mascots – three, to be exact. Let’s take a look at all three:
The 76ers three mascots
Up until 1996, the Sixers had a blue monster with ginger hair and a pair of super cool shades as their mascot, Big Shot. Older fans will remember the Big Shot as he was so popular among the team that they were not ready to forget about him. Instead, however, Philadelphia got Hip Hop.
Hip Hop was an energetic rabbit who could do incredible dunks. While he could jump like no other, many found his appearance to be a bit creepy.
After Philly moved on from Hip Hop in 2011, they went on to have no mascot for a few years. And that’s when the blue dog made an appearance.

In 2015, Franklin was introduced and made his debut in the fall of 2016. He was unveiled as the official mascot of the 76ers and was an immediate hit with fans.
Philly actually had a “kids-only Chief Design Team” search and find Franklin, who rapidly became a beloved member of the 76ers family. Franklin was designed to represent the team’s spirit and bring a sense of fun and excitement to the games.
