What’s the name of the new WNBA expansion team linked to the Golden State Warriors?
The WNBA keeps growing, and this time they revealed their newest expansion team coming out of the Bay Area
In an effort to boost women’s sports and increase their basketball profile, the Golden State Warriors chose to create a WNBA team, the Golden State Valkyries. The team will begin their WNBA adventure in 2025. The name Valkyries, originally from Norse mythology, represent fearless warrior women who soar through air and sea alike.
More than 7,500 season tickets have already been sold to see the Valkyries play at Chase Center. The team’s name honors the Warriors while embracing its own identity and representing bravery and solidarity. The Valkyries as a Warriors affiliate, want to have a significant impact on and off the court.
Who is on the Golden State Valkyries’ roster?
Although specific player details are not yet available, the Valkyries will be scouting new talent as the team starts to take shape. They will participate for the first time in the draft in 2025. There is no head coach announced yet, and the front office has said that they will be looking to fill the roster after the 2024 WNBA season is over.
Waiting until the season is over can give them an edge in poaching talent that might not be happy with their current situation. Nonetheless, this new expansion team is a nod to women’s sports; they keep growing, and it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.
