Indiana Hoosiers reset the college football clock... after 132 years

Underestimating the win over the Miami Hurricanes on Monday night is almost impossible, and we’re not going to try.

Update:

Way, way back in 1894, Yale completed the college football season with an unbeaten record of 16-0. While I wasn’t around then, I’m pretty confident no one was claiming that this feat they’d just enjoyed would never be achieved again, or even one hundred years thereafter. Even the idea that the league would still be active in 2026 must have been a stretch of the imagination few would have considered.

Anyway, fast forward those 13 decades plus two years, and the Indiana Hoosiers have put an end to the more recent talk that it may never be matched. A 27-21 victory over the Miami Hurricanes – with a Heisman-winning performance from Mendoza – set up celebrations that will continue for some time.

The question now is whether any of us will witness a clean sweep again or, like our 1894 brothers and sisters, we’ll shuffle off this mortal coil considering it unrepeatable.

There was no shortage of mentions of this as social media lit up over the Hoosiers feat:

I particularly enjoyed the comment from Ben Schneider reminding us that Yale’s achievement was closer to the United States’ Declaration of Independence signing that to today. Quite a thought.
