As the 2022 college football season goes into full throttle, one thing that hadn’t been decided in the offseason was who the starting quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines would be.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh doesn’t appear to be in a hurry, and decided that the choice didn’t have to be made immediately. He announced that different quarterbacks would start for the first two games- Cade McNamara for Week 1 against Colorado State, and J.J. McCarthy for the second week against Hawaii.

Two quarterbacks with starting potential

Harbaugh has said that either of the two could lead the team to a championship, but just which one is yet to be determined. The competition between the two has been close in training, so the coach decided that the early games could serve as their final audition for the post.

Harbaugh put off the decision because he could afford to do so. The team has the luxury of time, because their non-conference schedule has given them the ideal situation to see how both players perform in an actual game.

Michigan, the team with the most all-time wins in the history of college football, comes up against Colorado who were 3-9 last season, then Hawaii, who finished last year with a 6-7 record.

The coach believes that his decision is in the best interest of the team. Although some believe that putting off a decision on the starting quarterback could affect the unity and chemistry of a team, Michigan is solid enough to withstand the extended uncertainty.

College football fans just need to sit back, relax, and enjoy the competition between McNamara and McCarthy, and wait to see which one Harbaugh ends up trusting more to bring the Wolverines to victory.
