Eagles vs 49ers: AFC Championship preview

The 49ers had a rocky start to their season. They lost their starting quarterback Trey Lance early in the season only to lose their second string Jimmy Garoppolo in the middle of the season. But look at them now. Third string quarterback and last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft Brock Purdy is making history. Moving on to the Divisional Round saw him join just four other rookie quarterbacks (Joe Flacco, Mark Sanchez, Ben Roethlisberger, and Shaun King) who have taken their team this far. All four of those QBs lost in the Conference Championship game so if Purdy manages a win on Sunday, he’ll be the first rookie quarterback to ever make it to the Super Bowl.

The Niners breezed past the Seahawks in the Wild Card Round and held off the Cowboys in the Divisional Round. They now head to the NFC Championship game for the third time in four years.

Purdy vs Hurts: NFC Championship QB matchup

The Eagles were the top seed in the NFC and thus got the first-round bye week. In the Divisional Round, they had no problem at all completely destroying their division rivals Giants 38-7. The Niners defense is the best in the league in scoring and won’t be such an easy win.

The Eagles offense, led by Jalen Hurts, also won’t be easy though. In the Eagles’ victory over the Giants, Hurts had 154 yards on 16-of-24 passing with two touchdowns and no interceptions, plus nine carries for 34 yards and one rushing touchdown. The Eagles defense also can’t be overlooked. In the Divisional Round, the Eagles defense had five sacks on Giants QB Daniel Jones, making their total 75 sacks on the season (regular and postseason), which is the third-most of any team...in NFL history.
