Update:

The countdown is on until the Detroit Lions are finally back in action in the 2025 NFL season, with a road game at the Green Bay Packers up first on September 7. With the clock slowly starting to tick, Dan Campbell will now be thinking about how best to prepare his team, Aidan Hutchinson included, for the big kickoff.

When do the Detroit Lions start 2025 training camp?

The Lions have revealed that veterans, such as Hutchinson, will report back with the team on July 19, three days after rookies are welcomed through the door.

Detroit’s official training camp schedule will begin on Saturday, July 26 at Meijer Performance Center in Allen Park, the team’s regular training facility. This year’s camp, which runs until August 21, includes joint practices with the Miami Dolphins (August 13 and 14) and the Houston Texans (August 21).

Lions’ 2025 preseason schedule

Additionally, the Lions will kick off the preseason by taking on the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2025 Hall of Fame game on July 31. They will then follow up with further preseason games against the Atlanta Falcons (August 8), the Dolphins (August 16) and the Texans (August 23).

Will Aidan Hutchinson be fit for the start of the 2025 NFL season?

Hutchinson, of course, will be one of the star attractions this preseason as he looks to make up for lost time. Detroit won NFC North with a 15-2 record in 2024 despite being hit by a raft of injuries, including a serious suffered by their defensive end.

The 24-year-old fractured both his tibia and fibula in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys, which brought his season to a premature end. Prior to his injury, Hutchinson had registered a league-leading 7.5 sacks and 19 total tackles in five games.

With several months having now passed, the No. 2 pick in the 2022 draft revealed in May that he had been “fully cleared” to play again and was “good to go” for the upcoming 2025 season.

How did Detroit do in 2024?

That should prove to be a significant boost for the Lions, who ended the last regular season as the NFC’s No. 1 seed but lost their first playoff game to the Washington Commanders in the divisional playoffs.

Can they do better this time around? With Hutchinson back at full fitness, anything is possible.
