While some fans applauded No. 15’s aggressiveness against the Chargers in Brazil, others think it could have been a dangerous play in the mid-to-long term.

Bad news for KC QB Patrick Mahomes: Why Chiefs fans should be worried this season

It wasn’t dangerous when it happened, but the consequences could be. Mahomes put his shoulder down and basically ran over a Chargers defender in Brazil. The KC QB knows he has support and protection from his teammates and, some even say, the referees, but we’ll have to see if that security blanket remains intact in 2025.
MAHOMES DROPS THE SHOULDER FOR THE FIRST DOWN SCRAMBLE 😤

So, what’s the bad news?
The problem is that Mahomes put a target on his back. After running over an unsuspecting Chargers cornerback, some of Ja’Sir Taylor’s teammates took offense. No. 26 was expecting Mahomes to duck out of bounds, so he avoided taking a chance of an unnecessary roughness call and held back. Mahomes knew that would probably be the outcome of the play and put his shoulder down and delivered a blow to Taylor.
What some non-Chiefs fans are asking for is that Mahomes doesn’t receive so much protection this year, especially after that play. Some, on Twitter, are asking for teams to go after Mahomes.
This is bullshit by Mahomes btw.

He knows the defender wouldn’t be allowed to hit him or he’d be flagged.
So Mahomes takes a shot.
The NFL needs to change how this play is managed. pic.twitter.com/iJ4coL2Z7w
Throughout the rest of the season, Mahomes will have to be careful when ducking out of bounds or sliding before getting hit because defenses around the league notice those little things.
This is absolutely moronic by Patrick Mahomes. Refs shouldn't defend him if he gets hit late near the sideline now

Chargers defenders let Mahomes get to the sideline without delivering a big hit, Mahomes delivers a 'tough guy' hit to the defender instead pic.twitter.com/djiPjvUOZF
Mahomes isn’t getting any younger or faster and his days of being overly protected by the NFL referees might be ending this season.
Chiefs fans can breathe easy for now, but we’ll see how the rest of KC’s opponents react to Mahomes’s hit on Taylor and if anything comes from it as some fans and analysts think might happen.
