Bengals brief Trey Hendrickson on six-figure fine he could face

Update:

Pro Bowl defensive end Trey Hendrickson wants more than the $16 million that the Cincinnati Bengals have put on the table. And to make his point, he may well sit out the team’s ‘mandatory’ minicamp, which takes place from June 10-12... and he knows very clearly what that means.

How much will Hendrickson be fined for skipping minicamp?

Under NFL rules, players under contract who miss minicamp are subject to escalating fines. According to OverTheCap.com, Hendrickson would be docked $17,462 for Day 1, $34,925 for Day 2, and $52,381 for Day 3, for a total of $104,768.

Of course, while that may seem like quite the parking fine for us regular folk, it’s only about 0.6% of his current 2025 salary, or what he’d make in a few series during a regular-season game.

But this isn’t about the fine – it’s about leverage. Hendrickson knows the Bengals can’t waive these penalties since he’s a veteran, and they almost certainly won’t.

When will Hendrickson appear after minicamp?

Still, this is not a surprise to either side. Head coach Zac Taylor reportedly warned Hendrickson weeks ago about the fines. And no one around the team is expecting him to show. This standoff has been baked into the offseason plan.

If Hendrickson skips all three days, his next appearance could come in late July at the full training camp – assuming the two sides haven’t resolved their stalemate by then.
