Update:

The Carolina Panthers take on the Los Angeles Rams in the first game of the NFL Wild Card weekend. All eyes will be on Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, who has had excellent 2025 season.

The Panthers have been a resurgent force this year and have returned to the playoffs for the first time since the 2017 season, finishing the season with a 8-9 record.

Young was the No. 1 pick of the 2023 NFL Draft but he struggled at points in his first two season, losing his starting place to veteran QB Andy Dalton. This year has brought real improvement from Young, who is the only quarterback with 400+ passing yards, 3+ passing touchdowns and zero interceptions in a single game this season.

That sort of form could attract interest from elsewhere but Young still has at least one more season remaining on his current contract. The four-year, fully guaranteed rookie contract signed in July 2023 is worth $37.9 million. Much of that comes from $24.6 million in signing bonuses.

Those four years run through the 2026 NFL season but the Panthers have the chance to extend for another season. There is a fifth-year team option that Carolina are expected to activate.

Ahead of the 2025 season, Panthers coach Dave Canales paid tribute to Young’s perseverance and the way that he had reacted to being bench last year.

He earned a lot of respect from his teammates, from me,” Canales explained. “He didn’t agree with me on the decision not to play him, but he worked and he kept leading. He was showing me, ‘This is my team.’ And he was showing his teammates, ‘You’re my guys.’”
