Caleb Williams lays out long term goal in Chicgao
The number 1 pick of the NFL Draft is preparing for his second season in Chicago, and Caleb Williams already has it clear what he and Bears fans want.

Last year in Chicago was all about hope. Hope for a better tomorrow, for a better future and for a bit more consistency in the Windy City. They missed the playoffs after a really rough last half of the season, but there is reason to be optimistic in Chi Town.
What awaits Williams in second season?
A lot of that optimism revolves around franchise quarterback Caleb Williams. He was the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after winning the Heisman Trophy and establishing himself as one of the top QBs in the country. He was expected to be the No. 1 pick for years and at the end of the 2023 season, the Bears got the top pick thanks to a trade with the Carolina Panthers.
Year one had it’s ups and downs for Williams, and the Bears. They won their Week 1 game against Tennessee, but Williams struggled. After losing two straight after that, they rattled off three straight wins. A BYE week seemed to take the wind out of their sails, and they Jayden Daniels Hail Mary started a landslide of 10 straight losses until their Week 17 win against the Green Bay Packers.

In that stretch of losses the Bears fired then coach Matt Eberflus who seemed to be on the hot seat during his entire tenure in in the Windy City. This offseason they appointed Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as their new head coach and that is great news for the soon to be second year quarterback.
“Goal is to be here a while”
The two coach and QB have only been together for a matter of weeks, but Williams says that they are already starting to click. “Ben Johnson is great and it’s not just Ben Johnson,” Williams told Empire Sports Media. “We have a young staff slash old staff and we have a bunch of experience, bunch of new energy provided by the coaches and players. It’s been awesome. Ben Johnson, he uses some choice words every day toward me. He’s tough and I love him. He’s awesome. It’s great being around him.”

In his first year in the NFL, Williams threw for 3,541 yards 20 TDs and just 6 INTs while completing 62.5% of his passes. He lost out of the Rookie of the Year award to No. 2 pick Jayden Daniels, but there is a lot to be excited about in Chicago. Bears fans have seen 20 QBs start under center since 2008, and Johnson will be the seventh coach since then. They both know that consistency is the key to building a competitive team over a long time, and that’s exactly what they plan on giving the Windy City.
“We hang out in his office and we just have lunch sometimes, things like that. We’re building this bond and relationship to be able to last a while. I know Bears fans, it’s year after year typically, or every other year, where coaches and quarterbacks specifically are in and out and our goal is to be here for a while.”
