Cowboys make another free agency move, sign DE Payton Turner to one-year deal
The Dallas Cowboys have made another move in free agency, signing former-first round pick Payton Turner to the defense.

Unlike last year, the Dallas Cowboys are making moves in free agency this offseason. They’ve already signed running back Javonte Williams and offensive lineman Rob Jones. On Tuesday, they added defensive end Payton Turner.
The Cowboys have agreed to a one-year deal with DE Payton Turner, a former first-round pick of the Saints in 2021, according to sources. Injuries hurt his development, but he had two sacks, four pass deflections and two forced fumbles in 16 games last year.

Who is Payton Turner?
The Cowboys signed the former New Orleans Saints player to a one-year, $3 million deal with $2 million guaranteed. Turner was the Saint’s first-round pick in 2021.
However, he didn’t quite work out the way they’d hoped. Over the last four seasons, he’s had injuries to his foot, shoulder, calf, knee, chest and toe, limiting him to just 31 games.
Turner never started a regular-season game. In his four seasons, he had just five sacks and 11 quarterback hits. Last season, he finished with 21 total tackles, two sacks, three quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, and four passes defended. He’ll get another chance to redeem his first-round status with Dallas.
