Davante Adams wants Aaron Rodgers to join the Raiders, but what has the QB said about it?
Given the relationship they had in Green Bay, it makes sense that the WR is pushing hard for a reunion. The question is, will his efforts to convince him be enough?
With speculation about his future continuing to intensify, it’s still anyone’s guess as to what Aaron Rodgers is going to do, but a former teammate believes he’s got the answer in Las Vegas. Indeed, wide receiver Davante Adams has made it clear he’d like to play with the star signal caller once again. Will he get his wish?
Davante Adams is campaigning for Aaron Rodgers in Las Vegas
You’d have to be living under a rock, to not know that Las Vegas Raiders’ Davante Adams would like the team to go after his former teammate and defending league MVP, Aaron Rodgers. Indeed, it’s been just one season since Adams arrived from the Packers where he spent several seasons playing alongside Rodgers, but following Derek Carr’s drop in favor, it’s clear the Raiders will now need a quarterback if they are to make any headway in the AFC West.
Where Rodgers is concerned, it’s like we said before: there is no official word on what he will or will not do. What we do know is that the Packers appear to be ready to move forward without him, meaning a job in Las Vegas can’t be completely out of the question. “Why would anybody not do that? I mean 100 percent, that’s my guy,” Adams said at Sunday’s Pro Bowl Games. “Wishful thinking, but we’ll see what happens.”
What was the Rodgers/Adams partnership like?
To be frank, when they played together it was one of the best QB/WR relationships in the NFL. Between 2016 and 2021, Adams led the NFL in receptions (581) and receiving touchdowns (69), while finishing second to Travis Kelce in receiving yards (7,192). During that time, Rodgers won two MVPs, while throwing 111 touchdown passes compared to just 13 interceptions between 2019 and 2021. “Would I be interested in having Aaron Rodgers throw to me?” Adams said, recently. “Yes. I would love that. ...I would love to have that, and obviously, that would be a dream scenario. One that I’m very familiar with.”
How’s Davante Adams been in 2022 and what did Aaron Rodgers say?
Despite their lack of post season success, Adams was stellar in 2022, catching 110 passes for 1,516 yards and 14 touchdowns. Indeed, where scores are concerned, he led the league this year, which only makes sense when you consider that the 83 receiving touchdowns that he’s registered since 2016 lead the entire NFL. To that end, Adams has been named to the First Team All-Pro for the last three consecutive seasons. This is all to say, that the wideout is definitely happy out west, but it seems like he’d be even happier if his former teammate would join him. Funnily enough, that’s something that even Rodgers himself has acknowledged. Speaking on Sunday at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am - which he won - Rodgers admitted to both the interest out of Las Vegas and Adams’ efforts to convince him. “Just going to say the predominant team we hear as we’re walking is Raiders,” Rodgers said at the event. “A lot of ‘Davante misses you’ comments. We’re having some fun with it.”
