Update:

The NFL season came to an end less than a month ago, but football fans have been enjoying the offseason pigskin oasis this week with the NFL Combine in full swing from Indianapolis.

Bond eyeing the record

It’s a place where legacies are started, futures determined and sometimes records are broken. There are six drills in the combine that player of all positions, sizes and athletic ability are put through. The 40-yard dash is the flashiest one, and this year we have a candidate to break the record that was just set last year.

Former Texas Longhorn, and current Kansas City Chief Xavier Worthy broke the 40 yard dash record at the combine last year running a 4.21 before being taken by the Kansas City Chiefs late in the first round.

Now it’s another Texas Longhorn, Isaiah Bond’s turn to run the 40 and he’s eyeing a record breaking day from Indianapolis. “I’ve been running my whole life,” Bond said. “I’ve been one of the fastest my whole life, so I’m going to go out there, and when practice meets preparation, greatness is achieved. So I’m just going to trust my training and put on a show.”

Aiming for a 4.1 40

Bond started his career at Alabama before transferring to Texas last season. He had just 34 receptions last year, but totaled 540 yards receiving and 5 TDs.

The fastest the speedster ran last season was more than 22 miles per hour in the Longhorns’ win over UTSA and said that his personal best time coming into the weekend was 4.23.

“I’m going to break the record tomorrow, for sure,” Bond said Friday. “I anticipate running 4.20 or possibly, if I’m feeling great, I might run a 4.1.”
