After the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Dallas Cowboys in Week 14 of the 2024 NFL season, news broke that quarterback Joe Burrow’s home had been burglarised. Now, authorities have made their first arrests in connection with the high-profile case.

According to court documents obtained by WLWT, four individuals—Alexander Chavez, Bastian Morales, Jordan Sanchez, and Sergio Cabello—were arrested on January 10 by the Fairborn, Ohio, police department. All four suspects, identified as Chilean nationals, are accused of participating in a series of home burglaries targeting multimillionaires across multiple states.

The men claimed they were in Ohio to “see the snow”

Per a report by CBS News, Chavez was found with a valid New York State driver’s license, while two others carried fake IDs, and the fourth had no identification. Among the recovered items were an old LSU jersey and a Bengals cap, believed to have been stolen on December 9, 2024, in Hamilton County, Ohio.

Authorities later uncovered that the suspects had overstayed their visas and were in the U.S. illegally. During their arrest, the men claimed they were in Ohio to “see the snow.” However, police discovered two automatic lock-picking tools in their vehicle, raising further suspicions.

Charges and legal proceedings

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced that the suspects face multiple charges, including engaging in a criminal organisation and possession of burglary tools. They are currently being held on a $250,000 bond each and are represented by public defenders.

If convicted, the charge of participating in a criminal organisation carries penalties ranging from two to four years in prison for severe cases, while lesser offences result in sentences of one to three years.

This case highlights ongoing challenges with organised burglary rings targeting high-profile individuals in the U.S. and underscores the importance of cross-state law enforcement coordination. Authorities continue to investigate whether the suspects are linked to other crimes nationwide.
