Update:

If you haven’t noticed by now the NFL’s offseason is in full swing, and the deals that have been going down have been changing the landscape of the league. On Monday the legal negotiation window opened before free agency officially starts, and the New York Jets wasted no time naming their future quarterback.

Jets have their new signal caller

After a tumultuous two years with Aaron Rodgers, both the four-time MVP and the Jets decided to part ways leaving the QB1 spot open in the Meadowlands. Justin Fields appears to be the incumbent at MetLife Stadium as the Jets start a new era.

Fields spent last season in Pittsburgh after playing his first three seasons in Chicago. He was the Week 1 starter for the Steelers, but that was only because Russell Wilson got hurt and was sidelined for the first six weeks of the season. In that time he went 4-2, throwing for 1,106 yards, five TDs and just one interception. He also scored another five touchdown on the ground.

Now the Jets are looking to bring out the best of the dual threat QB. Fields signed a two-year deal worth $40 million, $30 million of which is guaranteed.

New era in New York

The Jets are in the midst of a new era after hiring Aaron Glenn as their new head coach. Glenn spent the last four seasons as the defensive coordinator in Detroit, and led them to back-to-back deep playoff runs.

Fields posted a picture on Instagram early Monday showing that he wasn’t too concerned or bothered by the negotiating period opening up. The post was the QB having a coffee while on vacation in Dubai, but now that a deal has been agreed to, it’s time for Fields to start preparing to be QB1 in the Big Apple.

Chicago Bears fans were split on whether or not to let Fields go and take Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick. He seemed to be breaking out of his shell in Chi-Town despite the coaching inconsistency in the Windy City. He played well in the time he was afforded in Pittsburgh and spent a season studying under his childhood idol Russell Wilson. Now it’s his turn to take the stage in New York.
