Keion White of the 49ers, wounded in a shooting in San Francisco
The San Francisco defensive end was caught in the crossfire Monday morning and underwent surgery. The team has not released any further information.
After a shooting early Monday, February 9, on the 1700 block of Mission Street, both the San Francisco 49ers and the NFL confirmed that 49ers defensive end Keion White was shot and is currently undergoing surgery to repair the damage as much as possible.
“Keion White was the victim of a shooting and sustained a gunshot wound to the ankle this morning in San Francisco. He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide more information as needed,” the official statement read.
A night out at the Patriots’ Super Bowl party
According to reporting from The Athletic, White had attended the New England Patriots’ post‑Super Bowl party. He spent three seasons with the Patriots before being traded to San Francisco this year. Authorities believe that outside the venue, a dispute between rival groups escalated, and the 49ers defender was caught in the gunfire.

“A preliminary investigation revealed a verbal altercation between two groups inside a business. The victim was struck after shots were fired by an unknown suspect,” the San Francisco Police Department said.
For now, the 49ers have not released additional details, though updates are expected as the situation develops. In less than five months, White went from preparing to play in a Super Bowl with the Patriots to being injured after attending their celebration — a night meant to mark their return to the big game, even though they didn’t win it.
