New faces, same goal: Dak Prescott and the Cowboys looking forward to training camp with new weapons
The Dallas Cowboys failed to make the playoffs last year and are in need of a major turnaround under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

What next for the Dallas Cowboys? After two consecutive 12-5 records under Mike McCarthy the team dropped off dramatically last season, failing to make the playoffs and ending McCarthy’s time in Dallas.
Now, under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, the Cowboys are once again looking to build a championship-winning team and should have their three-time Pro Bowl quarterback back in contention.
Dak Prescott played only eight games in 2024 before a season-ending hamstring injury kept him sidelined. Now back to full fitness, Prescott is aiming to end the franchise’s 30-year wait for a Super Bowl.
“I wanna win a championship,” Prescott told the team’s website. “The legacy and the things, and whatever comes after I finish playing, will take care of itself.”
“I wanna win a championship. Be damned if it’s just for my legacy, for this team, for my personal being, for my sanity -- the legacy will take care of itself. I have to stay where my feet are.”
When is the Dallas Cowboys training camp?
Schottenheimer is tasked with turning around a Cowboys team that came under a lot of criticism in 2024. He started out as an assistant coach for the St. Louis Rams in 1997 and has held countless roles during three decades in the league. Now, however, is his first posting as head coach.
It’s a role that he seems to be relishing and he was widely praised for the energy that he brought to the OTAs and the team’s mandatory minicamp earlier this month.
He will have his first proper chance to work with the team next month when training camp beings. Both rookies and veterans will report to Staybridge Suites, Oxnard on Monday, July 21. There’s now real optimism around the team that the Cowboys can compete for a championship once again.
“It starts with personnel,” Prescott said, reflecting on the offseason work so far. “I think Schotty’s done a great job in minicamp of putting guys in places, putting guys in space and allowing guys to see how he’s gonna use them.”
