Update:

There are reports surfacing out of Pittsburgh that the Steelers have found their next quarterback. Just a day after bringing in one of the most desired wide receivers in the league, they are taking aim at a legendary quarterback who is looking for a new team.

Rodgers heading to the Steel City?

The deal might be in the works as this article is being written. The Steelers have apparently targeted Aaron Rodgers to come in and fix the offensive problems that have plagued them for the last few years.

Rodgers and the New York Jets parted ways after a couple of disappointing seasons leaving the 41 year-old QB without a team. Rodgers has yet to declare officially that he is up for the challenge of playing another long and grueling NFL season, but the fact that he has at least one potential suitor might sway his opinion.

Rodgers was one of the top quarterbacks of his generation, but it’s been a rough go for the four-time MVP in the last few seasons. It started the season before he was traded to the New York Jets, when he was among the worst quarterbacks in the league statistically.

Post Big Ben problems

In his final season in Green Bay he threw for 3,695 yards, 26 TDs and 12 INTs, but his passer rating was just 38.7 which was in the bottom six of all starting quarterbacks. Then he went to New York where he tore his achilles in his debut, missing the entire season. This year he was healthy, but the Jets finished 5-12 and went through multiple mid-season dramas.

The Steelers are trying to sort out their issues on the offensive end since the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger. They drafted Kenny Pickett but moved on from him after a few seasons. Then they brought in Justin Fields and Russell Wilson last year. Things seemed to be on the upturn, but a horrendous end to the season saw them lose their final five games including their first round playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Pittsburgh defense has been among the best in the NFL over the last few seasons but their offense has been a liability. The Steelers showed they mean business when it comes to beefing up their offense with the trade that brought DK Metcalf in from Seattle. They traded for the pass catcher with a super hero’s physique and singed him to a five-year, $150 million deal.
