Quarterback showdown in Cleveland: The QB battle will unfold at the Browns’ training camp in Berea
All eyes will be on the Cleveland Browns when they begin training camp in Berea next month as their quarterback competition heats up.
The Cleveland Browns are making the rare choice to keep all five quarterbacks on their roster as they get ready to head to training camp in July. After a 3-14 season in 2024 and a decade of over a dozen disappointing QBs that didn’t pan out, the Browns look to be just stacking the room to see what eventually works.

Browns training camp kicks off next month in Berea
Of their five quarterbacks, there are four who could potentially start for the Browns. Deshaun Watson is likely out for the season, but behind him are veterans Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco, and rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. That means training camp and preseason are going to be extremely important for the Browns in determining which one will get the spot.
As the quarterback battle heats up, the Browns will be closely watched. But they should try not to let the battle go on too long, as such competition can disrupt the team’s preparation if it does. They’ll want to have a good idea about who will start by the time the preseason starts winding down to give that person a chance to start building rhythm and cohesion and prepare for the regular season.
The rookies will report to training camp in Berea on July 18 and the veterans will follow on July 22. The Browns will hold a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers on August 6 ahead of their preseason opener on August 8, five weeks after the start of training camp. They have another joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles on August 13 ahead of the second preseason game on August 16. They wrap up the preseason on August 23 against the Los Angeles Rams.
The Browns will kick off the 2025 NFL regular season on Sunday, September 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and it’s anybody’s guess right now who will be under center that day.
