Steelers legend wants Aaron Rodgers for 2026: “You could bring his offense in”
The four-time NFL Most Valuable Player is 42 but remains an in-demand quarterback.

For the first time since 2007, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in the hunt for a new head coach.
The departure of Mike Tomlin was the end of an era in Pittsburgh but that doesn’t mean that the team has to start everything anew. In fact, 42-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers could still be brought back for one more shot at a second Super Bowl.
Legendary Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger appeared on the Channel Seven YouTube show this week to discuss the team’s future direction. He paid tribute to Tomlin for his long stretch with the team, before pointing to a new direction for the Steelers.
“We’ve had defensive-minded coaches in here, that’s what they’ve all been, I’m ready for an offensive guy, I want to score more than six points in a postseason game,” Roethlisberger said.
Who will be the next Steelers head coach?
Roethlisberger suggested that the Steelers look to a more offensive-minded coach to replace Tomlin. He pointed to Sean McKay and Ben Johnson as recent success stories with a more exciting brand of football.
He said: “Mike McCarthy is an offensive veteran coach with Pittsburgh ties, he understands the Steeler way, what it means to be a Steeler and the Rooney family and how it works.

“The potential positive side of coming in here would be the potential of Aaron Rodgers coming back. They have a relationship together. I assume it’s good enough. They won a Super Bowl together. You could bring his offense in. Aaron would know the offense and feel super comfortable in an offense he knows.”
So far, the Steelers hierarchy has remained silent on the possibility of Rodgers returning but the veteran QB did enough in 2025 to suggest that he still has a lot to offer. Rodgers went 10-7 as Steelers starter, winning the team’s first AFC North division title since 2020.
If he is willing to come back for 2026, the Steelers could look to build behind the veteran quarterback for one more year.
