It’s safe to say Super Bowl LIX didn’t go according to plan for the Kansas City Chiefs. Chasing a first ever ‘three-peat’ in the current championship format, Andy Reid’s team found themselves 24-0 down at halftime and with far too big a mountain to climb in the second half.

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes had one of the worst games of his career, and even celebrity super fan Taylor Swift had an outing to forget, which prompted Donald Trump, who was in attendance at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, to claim she’d had “a tougher night than the Chiefs” on Truth Social.

The “Shake It Off” singer has been something of a lucky charm for the Chiefs since getting together with Travis Kelce before the start of the 2023 season. Until Sunday, she had seen Kansas City win 19 of the 22 games she had attended in the flesh, including 14 in row and all six postseason contests.

The Chiefs’ defeat was not the only challenging moment for Swift in New Orleans, though. Early in the game, the 35-year-old was shown on the jumbotron inside the stadium, which led to huge boos from the mostly pro-Eagles crowd. The fact singer is from Pennsylvania but was backing the Chiefs may not have helped endear her to the Philadelphia support.

In fairness to the pop superstar, she appeared to take the booing in relatively good part, smiling and laughing after a few seconds of confusion. However, a report from the Daily Mail suggests that may not have been the case, and certainly wasn’t for Kelce.

Per a source close to the Chiefs tight end: “Travis was aware of Taylor getting booed and he felt helpless. Seeing the look on her face got to him. He always protects her and it broke his heart. He was already having a tough night and the fact that the stadium was predominantly Eagles fans didn’t help. Travis knows that this hurt her and anyone can see this.”

Perhaps Swift hid her true feelings more than it appeared…

Travis Kelce unhappy with Donald Trump

Kelce was also seemingly unhappy with Trump’s comment: “Travis believes that it was unnecessary for Trump to take a dig at her especially after he voiced that he was honored for a president to be there.”

It rounded off a difficult week for Swift, who was nominated for six awards at the 2025 Grammys but didn’t win any, to the surprise of most.
