Update:

The Dallas Cowboys have been known as “America’s Team” since the 1970s. But back then, they were still winning championships. Even in the ’90s, the name still suit them.

Nowadays, the Cowboys are 30 years removed from a Super Bowl appearance and even an NFC title. They still claim to hold the title of “America’s Team” based on history and everything else the team represents, but without wins? It’s becoming hard to defend as arguably...that’s the only thing that matters.

Chiefs: The new “America’s Team”?

That’s raised the question of whether or not there’s a new America’s Team and whether or not that might be the Chiefs. They’ve built a dynasty around quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, and coach Andy Reid and have won three Super Bowls in the last five years. Plus Kelce is dating America’s Sweetheart Taylor Swift. So the argument is strong.

Speaking of Kelce, he actually weighed in on the debate on a recent episode of his “New Heights” podcast and said he has no interest in taking that title from the Cowboys.

“So I’m kinda out on just the whole ‘America’s team’ deal,” said Kelce. “I don’t give a f*** about that s***. I wanna be the Chiefs, man, that’s who I wanna be. I wanna be the big bad Chiefs, come join if you want. But America’s team? The ‘Boys can have that if they want.”

Whether or not he or the other players want the moniker, however, they are basically representing everything it stands for as they continue to be the media’s biggest modern obsession every season now.
