NFL Draft

The incredible fact that makes the 2025 NFL Draft unique: It’s the first time this has happened since 1967

The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft is just over 24 hours away, and it’s on target to achieve a first in history since the merger.

Update:

The 2025 NFL Draft will begin tomorrow, Thursday, April 24 with all 32 teams selecting their first-round picks. It continues on Friday and Saturday with rounds 2-3 and 4-7, respectively.

With just over 24 hours to go until the start of the draft, this year’s is set to achieve an NFL first.

NFL Draft 2025 could break a 57-year streak

The 2025 NFL Draft is poised to make history, with all 32 teams currently holding their original first-round pick - something that hasn’t happened since the common draft era began in 1967. This marks a significant shift from recent years when multiple franchises traded away their top picks in deals for star players.

Baldinger is predicting this will change, but we’re still waiting.

This unusual stability is attributed to the perceived balance of this year’s draft class, which lacks clear-cut superstars, especially at quarterback. Teams appear hesitant to give up trade capital when similarly rated talent is available throughout the first round. While Cam Ward is expected to go No. 1 overall, uncertainty surrounds other quarterbacks like Shedeur Sanders, which may delay trade activity until draft night.

However, trades are still expected once the draft begins. History suggests at least one team will trade into the top 15 - something that’s happened for 24 straight drafts - but the 2025 draft could buck that trend if quarterback demand remains lukewarm until teams are on the clock.
