The most unlikely Super Bowl ever: New England and Seattle preseason long shots
The Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots are less than a week away from kicking off Super Bowl LX, but very few expected them to be here.

The Super Bowl is right around the corner and both NFL fans, and casinos are getting ready for the biggest day in sports and gambling. People from all over the U.S. will be looking for a big pay day during the final game of the NFL season, but those who took the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots are on the verge of a hefty potential cash out.
A new day in the NFL
Before the season started there were certainly some favorites to win it al, but Seattle and New England weren’t on very many people’s radar. Teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills topped the odds boards before Week 1, but two of those teams failed to even make the playoffs, the others knocked out before Championship weekend.
You would have had to look awfully far down the list to find the two Super Bowl contestants getting set for the big game on February 8th. Seattle was a 60-1 long shot (+6000) to win the Super Bowl before the 2025 season started. They were a 10-7 team last year, but lost their quarterback, Geno Smith in the offseason and were in a division with the LA Rams, and the San Francisco 49ers. Just getting to the playoffs seemed to be a stretch for Seattle before the campaign started.

The Patriots were a four win team last season. They let go of their coach Jerod Mayo after a year, and even though Drake Maye had a decent rookie season there was a lot of work to be done on both sides of the ball. New England came into the season as an even bigger long shot, with an 80-1 chance (+8000) at making the Super Bowl.
What happened since then?
A lot has changed from Week 1 to the final week of the NFL season. It was a season that no team really made a strong enough case to be the favorite throughout the campaign, but the Seahawks and the Patriots were always in the conversation after surprising starts and even better finishes. Backed by the best defense in the league, and second year head coach Mike MacDonald, Sam Darnold came to Seattle and brought them the consistency on the offensive that this team needed. They went 14-3 in the regular season and won the NFC’s one seed against all odds.

The Pats came in way under everyone’s radar, and after a Week 1 loss to the Raiders, things got off to a rocky start under new coach Mike Vrable. It wouldn’t take too long until the Pats made a statement win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 5, and people started to take this team seriously. The “no name” defense of New England, and a sudden sensation at QB made this team one of the league’s biggest turnaround stories in the history of the NFL.
It’s the Monday before kickoff to Super Bowl LX, and right now, the Seahawks are 4.5 point favorite over the New England Patriots. While the prognostics may have Seattle favored, looking at the preseason Super Bowl odds for each of these teams, you’d have to say this is anyone’s game.
