The Philadelphia Eagles fought to a 28-22 victory in snowy conditions against the LA Rams on Sunday night, setting up a meeting with the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game.

The Eagles were helped to the win by running back Saquon Barkley who set a franchise record with 205 rushing yards in a postseason game. He ran home two 60+ yard touchdowns and was showered with chants of ‘MVP, MVP’ from the Philadelphia crowd.

Barkley’s latest show-stopping performances takes him to 2,329 rushing yards this season. In NFL history only Terrell Davis stands ahead of him for single-season rushing yards. Davis recorded 2,331 yards (1997) and 2,476 yards (1998) for the Denver Broncos as they won back-to-back Super Bowls.

With at least one game remaining, Barkley looks certain to jump ahead of Davis’ 1997 performances and needs 168 more rushing yards to break the single-season NFL record.

Saquon Barkley ready to make history

After a string of incredible regular season performances Barkley may have felt a little aggrieved to be denied the chance to claim another NFL record. Ahead of the final round of fixtures Barkley was on 2,005 rushing yards, just 101 short of the all-time single-season record held by Eric Dickerson.

But with a playoff place already secured head coach Nick Sirianni opted to rest Barkley and several other key players for the final game, closing the door on that particular record. When the decision was announced Barkley insisted that he wasn’t bothered, but later conceded that he would have liked a shot at the record.

Barkley explained: “When I slept on it, I realized it was an opportunity to implant my name in football history. May never get another opportunity like that again so I’m down.”

The Eagles will be at home again for the NFC Championship Game this weekend, in front of a passionate Philly crowd. The team won its first Super Bowl in the 2017 season and the home support will be praying for another shot at a national championship for the talented team built by Sirianni.

“The atmosphere was crazy. It was insane,” Barkley said on Sunday, reflecting on the atmosphere at Lincoln Financial Field. “I’ve got a smile on my face thinking about it. This is what you dream about. This is why I came to Philly. I wanted to be part of games like this, and I’m just happy to be a part of it.”
