Update:

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Travis Kelce opened the door to another season with the Kansas City Chiefs but insisted that he would do what is best for the team.

Kelce, now 36 years old, was selected by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Since then the Ohio-born tight end has gone on to become a three-time Super Bowl champion and win a spot in the NFL’s Team of the Decade.

He is reaching the end of an illustrious career and his current deal with Kansas City expires at the end of the season. He confirmed on Friday that he is considering another year with the team and will make his final decision before the start of free agency in March.

I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not... or whether they want me back or not,” Kelce said. “I’d like to make that decision before they’ve got to get draft picks and free agency opens to fill the roster appropriately."

“All that will be at the end of the season. I won’t be thinking about it until then‚" Kelce continued. He added that if this is to be his final season, he does not want any sort of special treatment for his farewell year, saying: “That’s not me.”

The Chiefs have work to do if they are to make it to the postseason this year, currently sitting third in the AFC West. Kansas City have a 5-5 record on the season and will need to show their championship-winning experience down the stretch if they are to make it.

There has been some personal achievement for Kelce, despite the team’s sputtering form. Last weekend he broke the franchise record for total touchdowns with his 84th career score in the 22-19 loss to the Denver Broncos.

“He deserves it, the work he puts in every day,” Patrick Mahomes said of his long-time teammate. “He’s a leader, man. It just speaks to the person that he is that he’s able to go out there and break that record. That was a great play in a big moment in the game. That’s when he usually makes his big plays.”
