Why are police greasing poles in Philadelphia ahead of the NFC Championship Game?

As Philadelphia prepares for this weekend’s NFC Championship game, so too are the city’s police, as they expect mass amounts of fans to be out in the streets whether their Eagles win or lose.

It appears the police of Philadelphia are leaving nothing to chance, ahead of the Eagles NFC Championship date with the San Francisco 49ers this weekend. To be fair, if we consider the kind of chaos we’ve witnessed in the past when it comes to fans celebrating or lamenting their team’s efforts, you can’t blame them.

Philadelphia police are greasing poles

According to recent reports, the Philadelphia police are greasing poles around the city. While that in itself may seem like a rather strange thing to read, the reality is all safety measures are on the table when you’ve got a game as big as the NFC Championship about to occur. On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles will host the San Francisco 49ers in the title decider for the NFC and more importantly, the game that will determine who gets a trip to Super Bowl LVII. With that in mind, police are understandably taking all precautions to ensure public safety, in the event that there should be a massive party to celebrate an Eagles win.

One such precaution, involves the greasing of light poles around the metropolitan area, in an effort to prevent people from climbing them in celebration. If you didn’t know, Eagles fans have a history of climbing poles following big wins and as you can imagine, a fall from such a height would definitely put a different spin on the evening’s proceedings. Precisely what law enforcement officials would like to avoid. Regarding what they’re actually using to carry out the mission.

What are police using to grease poles in Philadelphia?

It’s understood, that police are utilizing a product by the name of Bio Bottle Jack Hydraulic Fluid ISO 32. Biodegradable, the fluid is considered environmentally friendly and doesn’t appear to cause any irritation that would be worth writing home about, when it comes into contact with human skin. At any rate, if the Eagles aren’t able to take care of business at Lincoln Financial Field, it’s quite likely the extra police work will amount to nothing more than a precautionary measure. We imagine in this case, maybe even Philly’s police wouldn’t mind there being a reason for fans to be disorderly. Either way, the Philadelphia Eagles will play the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, with kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. ET. Don’t miss it.
