Why was former Cincinnati Bengals Pro-Bowler Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones arrested at an airport in Kentucky?

The former Bengals star found himself on the wrong side of the law, and at an airport in Kentucky no less. Needless to say, his disturbance was unwelcome.

Despite the fact that he has vehemently denied any culpability, what remains clear is that the former Bengals player was removed from a flight and detained by police after he was deemed to be the cause of a disturbance.

Adam “Pacman” Jones arrested at Kentucky airport

According to reports on Monday morning, former Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was arrested at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, after he allegedly caused a disturbance prior to takeoff. The 39-year-old was described as “an unruly passenger” on a scheduled outbound flight according to an airport spokesperson. Police were called to the scene to assist the flight crew, after which they proceeded to detain Jones before the flight departed. It is understood that Jones was then booked into the nearby Boone County Detention Center on unspecified charges, according to jail records that were provided to the media.

Jones was later released after which he strongly denied any wrongdoing as he spoke with the press outside of the BCDC. “This s--- is getting old, brah,” he said, as he insisted that he was neither intoxicated nor guilty of making terroristic threats. “I’m a part of the media, too, but report the motherf---ing facts. Report the facts and stop reporting the bulls---.” To be clear, Jones asserted that he had been wrongly removed from the flight for simply asking to change the seat that he had purchased. You can see a clip of the interaction below, but be advised that there is abusive language:

“I paid for two seats myself,” he said. “I had a conversation with a stewardess - a man - about the charger (not) working. ‘Can you move me somewhere else?’ It went from a whole thing, from moving me to, ‘Oh, if we move you, we gotta stop the whole plane.’ ...This is what ya’ll want, though. ... I’m not kissing nobody a--. If I’m wrong, I’ma tell you I’m wrong. I’m wrong for telling the flight attendant that the charger is not working for the seat ‘cause I need my iPad to work when I get to New York?”

Some context on Adam Jones

It was just last year when Jones became a regularly featured analyst on the “The Pat McAfee Show.” Further to that, Jones then returned to Cincinnati during the 2022 season to become an honorary “Ruler of the Jungle” i.e., a celebrity guest of the Bengals, the team with which he played eight of the 13 seasons that he spent in the NFL. Incidentally, this is not the first time that the one-time Pro Bowler has had a brush with controversy. After being drafted by the Titans, Jones was suspended for the entirety of the 2007 season after multiple arrests, one of which came as a result of a shooting in Las Vegas.

There was also 2019, when he pleaded guilty to allegedly threatening authorities in an incident in Indiana. Most recently, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault in 2021. Ultimately, this latest situation will likely not do him any favors when weighed against his past transgressions. As we always say, ‘watch this space.’ He’s also made headlines in retirement, pleading guilty in 2019 to charges related to an Indiana incident in which he allegedly threatened authorities, and in 2021 pleading no contest to misdemeanor assault.
